Las Fallas
Valencia's explosive March festival, where each neighbourhood builds a giant satirical sculpture — only to burn them all on one spectacular final night.
What is Las Fallas?

Art built to burn
Every March, the city of Valencia fills with hundreds of fallas — enormous, brightly painted sculptures of wood and papier-mâché. Each neighbourhood spends all year (and a small fortune) building one, often poking fun at politicians and celebrities.
Noise, fire and flowers
For a week the city barely sleeps. There are deafening daytime firework displays called mascletàs, parades in traditional dress, and a huge offering of flowers to the Virgin. Children set off petardos on every corner.
La Cremà
It all ends on the night of the 19th of March with la cremà — ‘the burning’ — when every falla is set alight at once and the whole city glows orange. Recognised by UNESCO, Las Fallas is a dazzling mix of art, satire, fire and community pride.
“Las Fallas es arte hecho para arder: meses de trabajo que desaparecen en una sola noche de fuego.”
